CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION

Description: This conference is suitable for psychoanalytic psychotherapists.

In this conference, we will explore the psychedelic renaissance in mental health treatment and how it can influence and be influenced by psychoanalysis. We will consider two of the compounds being studied for their efficacy with mental health disorders and learn about research into their effectiveness. We will discuss how psychoanalysts are uniquely well-positioned to understand expanded states of consciousness and explore clinical issues in working with patients who use psychedelics.

Karen Peoples, PhD will present MDMA-Assisted Therapy: Potentials and Challenges for Psychoanalytic Treatment and Megan Rundel, PhD will present Ketamine and Psychoanalysis: Expanding Consciousness

Both presenters are psychoanalysts and trained in the therapeutic use of psychedelic medicines. Please see individual bios below.

CME Objectives:
  1. Explain the major psychedelic compounds being studied for their efficacy in treating mental health disorders, their mechanisms of action, contraindications, research findings, and clinical indications.
  2. Explain the reasons psychoanalysts are well-positioned to work with psychedelic medicines, including their familiarity with expanded states, understanding of the unconscious, and ability to work relationally.
