COURSE DETAILS
Description: This presentation is for all health professionals. It will describe patient selection and preparation for, and the actual procedure and process of, psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy with various medicines. We will also discuss the importance of integration work in this therapy.
CME Objectives:
- Discuss screening criteria for patients for PAP (Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy) and considerations when choosing a patient-appropriate medicine.
- Describe the role of the facilitator/guide in a PAP session.

INSTRUCTOR BIOGRAPHIES
Susan Frederick, MD graduated from Auburn University with a BS in Biology and Psychology her MD from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, completed her internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia, completed her Adult Psychiatry residency and then Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. She completed her Adult, Adolescent, and Child Psychoanalytic training at Denver Institute for Psychoanalysis. Susan joined the clinical psychiatry faculty at the University of Colorado where she is an Associate Clinical Professor. She has taught and supervised in both the UCHSC psychiatry residency and child and adolescent fellowship, and the Denver Institute for Psychoanalysis. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Susan has had a busy private practice in adult, adolescent, and child psychiatry since 1989. More recently, she graduated from the Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy Program of the Integrative Psychiatry Institute in 2022, the Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy Program through PRATI in 2022, the Trauma Touch Therapy Program at the Colorado School of the Healing Arts in 2022, and the Ketamine and Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy at the End-of-Life Program through PRATI in 2023. She also completed the MAPS MDMA online training component in 2022.
Randy Buzan, MD graduated from the University of Michigan with a BS in Psychology, a MD from the U-M Medical School, and completed his general psychiatry residency at the University of Colorado. He graduated from the PTP program at the Denver Institute for Psychoanalysis and then completed his psychoanalytic training at the DIP. He completed a fellowship in psychopharmacology at the University of Colorado and another mini-fellowship in electroconvulsive therapy at Duke. He joined the psychiatry faculty at the medical school where he directed the electroconvulsive therapy service, ran the psychiatry department’s outpatient services, and did psychopharmacology and neuropsychiatry research for 9 years. Randy has served as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Neuropsychiatry, is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and has published more than 25 papers and book chapters. He has presented nationally on pharmacology, treatment of brain injury and spinal cord injury, the neuropsychiatry of meditation and philosophy of mind, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and developmental disabilities.
Randy spent 25 years as the chief neuropsychiatrist at ReMed/Learning Services, a residential treatment unit for brain-injured patients and Randy has been the chief neuropsychiatric consultant at Craig Hospital for the past 30 years. He recently graduated from the Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy Program of the Integrative Psychiatry Institute in 2022, and the Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy program through PRATI in 2022. He completed the MAPS MDMA online training component in 2022.

CME Certificates: In order to receive a CME certificate, the attendee must: pre-register, pay in full, attend class, and complete an evaluation within 7 days after the program. Credit is equal to time participated for virtual events. An email with a link to the online evaluation will be sent after the class. CME certificates will be sent by email within a month following the event.

Confidentiality: During this class, we will follow rules of confidentiality for clinical case material including disguising identifying information. Please do not discuss any case material outside of the class. No recording of case material is allowed.
Cancellation: There will be NO refunds after January 31, 2024. Any refunds made before January 31st will be less a $10 administrative fee.
Certificate Replacement: Please retain your CME certificate for your records. There will be a $3 charge if the Society office must resend a certificate.
