The purpose of the film series is to encourage psychoanalytic dialogue with respect to creativity and movies.

EVENT DESCRIPTION, OBJECTIVES, AND BIOS
Description: The film series is for all mental health professionals. Dive My Car narrates a global, transgenerational, and personal journey of loss and mourning. As the movie recites several stories simultaneously, we witness the timeless influence of these often-traumatic events that are remembered, retold, and reconstructed as they happened in the past, are happening in the present, and will occur because of how the past and present shape the future—borrowing known works of literature and music to create links between pained souls of the characters and to heal the old wounds and nagging scars.
The discussants will show excerpts from the movie to generate a dialogue with the audience about the intrapsychic process of mourning, the transgenerational impact of trauma, and the presentation of un-mourned trauma, metaphorically called haunting ghosts of the past, in the psychic life of a cast of diverse characters.
CME Objectives (1.5 CME Credits Available):
- Discuss “how the past is present” from a psychoanalytic perspective that focuses on the impact of repressed and unmetabolized trauma on the actions and personalities of different characters.
- Apply the movie to describe, explain, and demonstrate mourning as an intrapsychic, multinarrative, transgenerational process in the journey “to bury the ghosts of the past and transform them into ancestors” that offer healing and acceptance.
- Discuss and describe common themes in internalizing relationships and the mourning process by using intertextuality in the presence of multi-lingual and multicultural context.
Discussant Biographies: Larry Mortazavi, MD, CGP is a child and adolescent psychiatrist who has been treating young children and their parents/families in diverse settings, including residential treatment programs, outpatient clinics, and private practice. Rick D. Bailey is a trial lawyer and mediator, focusing on complex business cases. From 2009 to 2014, Rick was in analysis with the late Dr. Fred Mimmack. During and as a result of the analysis, Rick began creative writing, primarily stage plays and screenplays. Rick's full-length screenplay "Lincoln at Congo Square" was recently submitted to several film festivals and as of this writing, has been named a semi-finalist in the Filmmatic Drama Screenplay Awards and runner-up for Best Historical Screenplay by the Chicago Script Awards. He is at work on his second full-length screenplay called Days of War, which will be about the years 1967-69 and the effect of the Vietnam War on families. In 2014, Rick and Dr. David Stevens together published a paper "Hearing and Mishearing: Psychoanalytic Observations on the Attorney-Client Relationship." Rick maintains a strong interest in psychoanalysis and is a member of the Society.
